# CAINIAO consolidation: when merging parcels saves money

Merging avoids paying the first-weight charge on every parcel, but the combined box still pays on its own chargeable weight.

## What consolidation saves, and what it does not

Shipped separately, each parcel pays its own first-weight charge. Consolidation packs them into one box and pays that charge once, but the box is billed on its own chargeable weight, which can exceed the parcels' total when the items are bulky.

Use the parcel records and current quote for your selected service. Consolidation is a choice to compare, not a promise of savings.

## Parcel and weight limits

- Up to 50 parcels per consolidation to the US or Canada, and 30 to Malaysia or Australia. Beyond that, the system splits the shipment and each part pays its own first weight.
- US: a standard parcel weighs up to 21.5 kg and any parcel up to 65 kg; heavier shipments are split.
- Canada: up to 28 kg by air and 64 kg by sea.
- Choosing a food route bills every parcel in that consolidation at the food price.

**Does consolidation always save money?**

No. Consolidation removes the repeated per-parcel charges, but the combined box still pays on its own chargeable weight. Merging several bulky, light items can produce a box whose volumetric weight costs more than shipping the parcels separately. Compare both quotes before deciding.
